Pearl enchantment at JGW Singapore this September
‘Queen of Gems’ among show floor attractions of Asia’s top B2B buying event of the year
HONG KONG, 10 August 2022 – Radiant pearls, universally loved for their incomparable lustre and subtle elegance, will once again shine bright this September at Asia’s biggest B2B jewellery sourcing destination of the year – Jewellery & Gem WORLD Singapore (JGW Singapore).
Offering products across the entire jewellery value chain, the physical event will bring together international buyers and about 1,000 exhibitors from more than 30 countries and regions from 27 to 30 September at the Singapore EXPO.
Previously known as the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair and widely regarded as the epicentre of the jewellery trade, the show is temporarily relocating from Hong Kong to Singapore – a bold and strategic move that aims to make the show venue more accessible to industry stakeholders eager to connect face to face. Singapore allows fully vaccinated visitors to enter the country without pre-departure tests, on-arrival tests and quarantine whereas Hong Kong still requires incoming travellers to quarantine and take pre- and on-arrival tests.
Prior to the Singapore show, a special-edition fair will be held in Hong Kong from 16 to 19 September catering to local trade buyers and jewellery lovers. The full-scale version of JGW will return to Hong Kong in September 2023.
Modern pearls
JGW Singapore is bringing together suppliers of Akoya, South Sea and Tahitian cultured pearls who will offer a diverse and carefully curated selection of finished jewellery and loose goods, including parcels, strands, pairs and single gems.

P&J Co Ltd of Japan is debuting its contemporary line of Akoya pearl jewellery, which is a perennial favourite among trade buyers looking for pieces that are classic and current at the same time. The collection includes an 18-karat gold necklace with Akoya pearls divided into sets of threes and interspersed with gold rondelles, a minimalist-style open gold bangle with Akoya pearl end caps, and earrings with Akoya pearls that seem to magically float on gold hoops.
Headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo, the company founded a pearl farm in Mie Prefecture in 1952.
“Only pearls that possess a beautiful bodycolour, overtones and lustre are chosen for our jewellery. Since we have an in-house farm, we can offer fine pearl products at reasonable prices,” P&J said.
OP Trading Co Ltd hopes to impress Southeast Asian buyers with its rich assortment of Japanese Akoya pearls, and white and golden South Sea pearls from Australia and Indonesia, which are presented either loose or semi-finished as strands. Its inventory includes Akoya pearls, designated as “Tennyo” pearls by the Pearl Science Laboratory of Japan, and South Sea pearls with “Phoenix” and “Chakin” designations.
“OP Trading is a wholesaler that has been dealing in Akoya and South Sea pearls since 2008. We offer a large selection of products encompassing a wide price range,” the company said.
Kuwayama Corporation aims to delight buyers with its impressive inventory of golden South Sea pearls, which the company said were cultured in Japan, and high-quality “Tennyo” and “Hanadama” Akoya pearls with accompanying certificates, to name a few.

Also anticipated to get a lot of attention at JGW Singapore are Nagahori Corporation’s heart-shaped golden South Sea pearls, and its broad selection of Akoya, South Sea and Tahitian pearls – presented as loose goods, strands and finished jewellery.
Established in 1930, Otsuki Pearl Co Ltd of Kobe is also bringing an array of medium- to high-quality Akoya, South Sea and Tahitian pearls, which are sold as loose goods and strands.
Imakei Pearl Co Ltd is celebrating the classic cultured pearl – the Akoya – at the show. “We specialise in the wholesaling and exporting of Japanese Akoya pearls,” Kobe-based Imakei said, noting that some collections come with pearl reports. “Akoya pearls are smaller than other pearls. An average-sized Akoya pearl is around 7mm to 9mm in diameter, and these are widely available at our company.”

Similarly, Anmol Gems Ltd, Shinyu Co Ltd and T.P.C Co Ltd are ready to showcase finished and semi-finished pearl jewellery and high-quality loose pearls and strands, including certified goods.
“We are delighted to welcome back major pearl suppliers to the September Fair as our industry rebuilds,” said David Bondi, Senior Vice President of Informa Markets in Asia. “In addition to pearls, the jewellery materials section of the show will feature diamond and coloured gemstone zones. Exhibits are grouped by product category to help buyers customise their visit and make the most of their Singapore trip.”
Serenely magnificent with an iridescence that amplifies the beauty of its wearer, the pearl occupies a unique position in the world of gems, added Celine Lau, Director of Jewellery Fairs at Informa Markets Jewellery.
“They are the only gems formed inside a living creature, and unlike other precious materials, they require no cutting and polishing,” Lau said. “Pearls come in different shapes, sizes and colours, and are most prized for their lustre. I believe visitors will be pleased with the quality of goods that our pearl exhibitors will showcase in Singapore.”
Apart from pearls, JGW Singapore will present loose diamonds in virtually every quality range, and coloured gemstones, from the classic ruby, sapphire and emerald to other popular gemstones. Buyers will also have a wide selection of finished jewellery to choose from and in styles spanning one-of-a-kinds, fine and everyday essentials, antique and vintage collections and silver creations. Resources for lab-grown diamonds, tools and equipment, packaging and technology solutions will also be available.
Segmented into 20+ show floor destinations spread across 35,000 square metres of gross exhibit space for easy navigation, the fair features pavilions representing the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), Colombia, Germany, Hong Kong, International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA), India, Israel Diamond Institute (IDI), Italy, Japan, Korea, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Türkiye and the US, among others. Also a must-see for retailers, brands and high-net worth buyers is the Premier Pavilion, a space that brings together some of the top names in luxury jewellery and gemstone manufacturing.
Meanwhile, JGW Hong Kong Special Edition is returning from 16 to 19 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Customised to adapt to Hong Kong’s restrictions on international arrivals and cross-border travel, the sourcing event aims to generate cross-market opportunities and onsite sales for suppliers by opening its doors to both trade buyers and jewellery lovers.
Coming on the heels of the two September fairs is Jewellery & Gem ASEAN Bangkok (JGAB), which is debuting from 2 to 5 November at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC). JGAB is a B2B cash-and-carry event that allows buyers from Southeast Asia and beyond to instantly replenish their stocks for the busy Christmas and New Year selling season. The Bangkok fair is positioned as the industry’s last wholesale buying fair of the year.
